The End of History

Multiple otherworldly, haunting and surreal abandoned architectural monuments stand today like ancient Roman ruins throughout the world. Although it’s almost hard to believe these bizarre, massive structures are real, they are all monuments erected by the communist regime in former Yugoslavia in the 1960s to commemorate WWII. That is why I am so thankful for photographer Jan Kempenaers. If not for him, I would never have been able to see these stunning architectural wonders.

In stark contrast to today, these monuments once drew millions of visitors per year; but with the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, they were sadly abandoned.  Anyone down for a trip to Yugoslavia??

Pot(holes)

One more reason I need to get to Paris. To see the completely beautiful repairs artist Juliana Santacruz Herrera has taken upon herself. She colorfully dyes, braids, and coils fabric upon fabric to enhance the beauty of those damn pot holes and add a bright vignette to busted spaces. Everything is more fabulous in Paris.
